Coffee with Charlotte Fnug Munksgaard founder of FNUG Nail Polish

07 Feb 2012 / / by Sian

At ella georgia we love introducing you to our friends and thought we would share with you an interview with Charlotte Fnug Munksgaard the founder of the wonderful Danish FNUG NAIL POLISH to find out how, why and what’s next for the brand.

Where does your passion for nail vanish come from?

As a child and teenager, nail varnish was forbidden territory for me. The fact that polished fingertips were so frowned upon in my childhood home only fuelled my obsession with lacquering up when, at the age of 19, I set off out into the world of travelling. And as a self-confessed polish freak, I have since scouted out, hunted down, tested and enjoyed the best nail varnishes – the ones where fashion, finish and durability come together to form a beautiful trin- ity.

What does FNUG mean?

My father in law’s mother was called “little fnug” by her husband and she was a petit lady. All their children were given FNUG as middle name. My husband has the name passed down from his father’s generation and I had it when we married.
In addition, At Christmas when the snow arrives we say in Danish look “sne fnug” which translated directly is “snow flake”. In fact FNUG means both tiny and snow flake in Danish. So I chose this as my brand name.

What made you start the long process of developing a nail brand?

My passion for beauty with an edge. I saw a niche market inspired by the Scandinavian fashion industry for
a Scandinavian designed nail brand in which a tasteful Nordic colour palette could be used. The varnish is chip resistant, which means that it is extremely long-lasting without the risk of breakage. In addition to nourishing protein, strengthening silica and delicate caviar, the varnish contains vitamins A, D, E and B. If you are wondering where the caviar fits in, it is all to do with the high content of nutritious essential amino acids and minerals found in the luxurious micro eggs. All-in-all a cocktail of ingredients and fashion forward colours leading to the culmination of a lengthy journey of discovery.

What is your inspiration for all the new colours?

While in a brainstorming process I think positively out of the box, am always open in general to new opportunities and I have always taken the chances given to me in life. I have spent 10 years abroad in places like the Seychelles and have always been inspired by other cultures in which colours are an integral part of society using different strong and vibrant shades often dramatic and so proudly displayed. I find a lot of inspiration looking at fashion and art.

What’s is NEW for FNUG in the future?

Being on the loop is key. FNUG wants to give you tastefully fabulous nails. In a simple, sublime, understated and yet daring way. FNUG will continue to come up with the IT colours, which follow the latest in Scandinavian fashion to ensure that your nails stay on trend.

Thank you for dropping by…

Hi! I founded ella georgia in 2003 as I wanted to create a special place to buy unique yet affordable jewellery and accessories that are both stylish but also ethically sourced. Since then my passions have remained the same although family and Ella have been added at the top of the list as well as running the business. I have a complete love of the jewellery that we design and the collections from our designers around the world. My philosophy in life is definitely 'half cup full', be happy, laugh lots, love loads and seize the moment. I hope you enjoy this blog and sharing our favourite finds, stories and style tips - hopefully divine inspiration to make you feel good and look great too. Sian
