We look at sustainability holistically. And so, as well as doing what we can to protect faraway people and places, we’re also trying our hardest much closer to home – in the way that we run our business. To this end we have changed our energy suppliers to ones with a greater focus on the future of our world. Maybe you’d like to too, and if so please consider these organisations.
They offer to ‘turn your electricity bill into a windmill’, because that’s what happens when you switch to Ecotricity. For every pound their customers spend on Ecotricity, the company spends a pound building new sources of green electricity. And that’s a fact! Here are some more:

We buy our gas from them, because they’re also passionate about the world we live in, and are as keen to show you ways to save energy as they are that you should buy what you need from their company.

When it came to choosing a bank, we wanted to work with one that shared our own thoughts on the ethics of running a business. The Co-operative bank was the only one we found with a similar outlook.
It’s no secret that banks are in business to make profits. One way they do this is by taking your money and lending it to someone else at a higher rate of interest. But what they rarely tell you is who they lend it to.
For example, your money could be loaned to companies involved in the fur trade, arms dealers who supply oppressive regimes, or multi-national companies with poor environmental records. And you wouldn’t know a thing about it.
Not so with Co-operative Bank which, in 1992, was the first of the High Street banks to launch an Ethical Policy that’s still unique today. For further details, please see their Ethical Policy and have your say on the issues that matter to you, such as human rights, animal welfare, fair trade and genetic modification. Also, for a background on the Bank, please Read about the history of The Co-operative.
We believe that little things really can make a difference, particularly where the environment is concerned. And so we adopt sustainability as our creed in every way possible – right down to the packaging we’ve chosen.
Your jewellery will be placed inside an attractive gift box, protected by ‘wood wool’ in a mailing carton. This in turn will be inside a bio-degradable mailing bag. Essentially we want all our packaging to have minimal impact on the world around us. And so here are a few details about each of the components:
Our signature ella georgia jewellery gift box is printed on 100% recycled board using nice vegetable based inks.
Is a natural, long lasting, chemical-free and environment-friendly loose fill packaging material. Our bio-degradable wood wool is manufactured from well seasoned, low resin content softwood harvested from renewable forests within the UK. After use, wood wool can be safely disposed of or reused. Soft yet resilient, it is ideal for protecting your goods in transit.
Our boxes are manufactured using 90%+ recycled material (only the outer of the box is not and that is made from a sustainable source), the boxes are fully bio-degradable and can be recycled.
These clever mailing bags are 100% bio-degradable (as they degrade when exposed to sunlight or heat) and of course they are re-usable too.
Labels:
After a great deal of searching, we finally tracked down a company that produces mailing labels made from 100% recycled material. As they say, every little helps!
Our jewellery and accessories are all carefully wrapped in white, acid-free tissue paper, which is manufactured from 100% from recycled material. If you have got any ideas on how we can improve our packaging then let us know at customerservice@ellageorgia.com
